Union League Café Located directly across from Yale University in the heart of New Haven’s historic theater and entertainment district, Union League Café is a French-inspired brasserie offering a lively but unpressured atmosphere. Combining Old World charm with a relaxed ambiance, it is sought out not only for its superb cuisine and acclaimed wine list but for its professional staff and service as well.
The Union League Café found a perfect home in the Sherman Building which is situated on the homestead site of New Haven’s first mayor, Roger Sherman—the only American whose name appears on the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution. One hundred years later, Gaius Fenn Warner, one of the city’s leading industrialists, built his townhouse on the site. From the 1880’s – 1940’s, it became home to the Union League Club, a private civic and social club. Designed in the Beaux Arts tradition by New Haven architect, Richard Williams, the building is a city landmark.
